THE Central Dabaris are excited to see their product Morea Morea Jnr progressing well with the SP PNG Hunters in the preseason leading up to the Hostplus Cup season start.
Dabaris coach Steven Gunua told The National yesterday that Morea starred for his side in last year’s Digicel Cup season and his selection into the Hunters was not a fluke.
“I’ve seen Morea developed as a player when I was coaching the Dabaris last year. With the talent he had, I knew he was going to make it into Hunters,” Gunua said.
“He has the speed, good side steps, great skill and exciting to watch. He was very skinny at the start of last season but then he put on some weight towards the back end of the season.
“And when he joined the Hunters preseason camp, he really gained few more kilos and I think he is best shape and form at the moment.
“The Dabaris club is proud of the type of player he’d become. We know he is going to go a long way but the challenge is on him to make the sacrifices, stay committed on and off the field and just give his best.”
Gunua said the Hunters had the perfect system where players such as Morea would develop into professional players.
“Morea is a great talent and with experienced coach like Stanley Tepend and Paul Aiton guiding such player, I am confident he will develop fast,” Gunua said.
“As coaches in Digicel Cup, we want to see players develop and excel in their rugby league careers and the Dabaris club would be even more proud if Morea can do well in the Hostplus Cup this season.”
Meanwhile, Morea is likely to play at fullback for the Hunters when they face the Kaiviti Silktails at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka tomorrow (4:30pm kick-off).
The preseason match will be the first Melanesian Bowl match between the two clubs after last year’s proposed match was cancelled.
Hunters assistant coach Paul Aiton said if it rains this weekend, the wet conditions should not be any excuse for the team not performing well.
“We played our last trail match in dry conditions, so if it rains this weekend it will be good for us because we would get to test ourselves under wet conditions,” he said yesterday.
