When we talk about PNG rugby league greats, we like to think of the Albert brothers, the Boas brothers, names like Garry Lo, but it's easy to forget a once household name in the likes of Mark Mexico!
Meet this men mountain, Mark Mexico who normally plays in the prop position.
Mexico was born in Lae and began his rugby league career playing school boys rugby in Lae, for local team, Kamkumu Crushers, later joining intercity team, Lae Bombers. Mark Mexico had the talent which caught the eyes of other clubs. He went on you play for Enga Mioks, Master Mark City Rangers, Snax Tigers and Rabaul GuriasGurias in the comp now known as Digicel Cup all PNG domestic rugby league teams.

In 2013 Mark Mexico had a short stint with intrust super cup team, RedCliff Dolphins before joining the PNG Hunters team in their first year taking part in the Queensland Cup. Mark was one of the standouts in the PNG Hunter's debut year in the Queensland cup.

In 2014 Mark Mexico caught the eye of Australian rugby immortal Andrew Johns. Andrew Johns was amazed by the size and physic of Mexico, he made a path for Mark Mexico which he was heavily linked with the NRL side, Manly Warringah Seagulls, but that link was short lived when another NRL club came calling and wasted no time in signing Mexico on a 1year deal effective immediately, making several appearances for their NSW Cup side.
Mark Mexico moved on to England in 2015 and played for Newcastle Thunder in League 1. Mexico played 17 games for the side and scored 2 tries.
Mexico then continued his career with Sheffield Eagles in a league above his previous.
At Sheffield, Mexico had built a good relationship with the fans and was one on the fan favorites.
He played 50 games and scored 7 tries in the championship Shield. In 2017 Mexico was unable to renew contract due passport irregularities.
Mark Mexico had a long representative career as well in 2005 played for the Junior Kumuls school boys rugby league World Cup hosted in Moscow , Mexico then played for the PNGRFL resident Kumuls against Cairns Northern Pride two years later and a test match against Toa Samoa the following year.
He was selected again to train with the PNGRFL Kumuls for the four nations in Australia again in 2010.
The next year Mexico was part of the train on squad for the PNGRFL Kumuls for Rugby League World Cup in Australia.
Mexico played again for the Emerging Kumuls, later representing PNGRFL Kumuls in a match a against Fiji in the same year also playing for PNGRFL Prime Minister's XIII .
Mark Mexico played a World Cup in 2013 in England and was noted on his aggressive style of play.
