Hunters assistant coach Paul Aiton said yesterday that the clash against the Rockhampton-based side would be an exciting matchup as the Capras would feature four Papua New Guineans.
The PNG players in Capras are former SP Hunters Samuel Yegip and Nixon Putt, and Zev John and Bob Tenza.
“Capras is like a second PNG team after Hunters and we are expecting a strong challenge from them,” Aiton said.
“We’re happy to see Yegip playing for them; he played for Hunters last season. Zev John and Nixon Putt are quality players and Bob Tenza will be going up against his brother Wesser Tenza so it’s an interesting matchup.
“We are looking at rotating the bulk of the players in the squad. We have 26 players in the squad but a couple of players are injured.
“Junior Igila got injured on Tuesday’s training and Koso Badi just had a cramp today (yesterday) so we’ll see how these injured players go in the next couple of day and then we can confirm the total number of players we will use.”
Aiton said the trial was important for side it would give them an indication on who to consider for the opening round of the Hostplus Cup next month.
“Everyone is fighting for a spot for round one so this game is important for them,” Aiton said.
“We already have an idea on what the team would look like for round one but we need to see them play first so this trial is an opportunity for both new players and the experienced boys to perform.”
Meanwhile, the Capras have named Kumuls duo John and Putt at No.11 and No.12 respectively while Samuel Yegip was named at 17 and Bob Tenza at 18.
Capras are expected to arrive in Port Moresby tomorrow afternoon.
