CENTER Rodrick Tai is happy to bring his experience from the National Rugby League (NRL) preseason stint with the Dolphins back to SP Hunters for 2023 Hostplus Cup season.
Tai, along with Judah Rimbu and Sherwin Tanabi, returned from Brisbane last week and joined the Hunters training camp this week.
The Papua New Guinea international didn’t make it into the Dolphins development side after he featured in the trials against the North Queensland Cowboys and Capras earlier this month.
However, Tai said he knew areas that needed improvement.
The Western Highlander said the experience of training and playing a few games alongside some of NRL’s marquee players was a bonus for him
“It was an unreal experience for me training with an NRL side and rubbing shoulders with some of the big name players that were at the Dolphins,” Tai said.
“Obviously NRL is at a different level and I could tell from the speed at training as well as in the two trials that I played in.
“The game against the Cowboys was definitely fast-paced though they had some development players in their side.
“It was great going up against some PNG players in the Capras and Cowboys as well.
“It’s good to test myself against quality players and I know the things that I need to improve on.
“The preseason stint has highlighted little things that I need to work on. I’m doing everything but it’s just those small things that will make me become better.
“I also want to bring back my experiences back into the Hunters and try give my best this season.”
Tai said he was looking forward to face his countrymen Samuel Yegip, Nixon Putt, Zev John and Bob Tenza who will be playing for the Capras on Saturday.
“We are always brothers off the field but on the field it will be different.”
