Digicel Cup franchises Port Moresby Vipers and Gulf Isou have been given the opportunity to rub shoulders against the PNG Hunters preseason train-on- squad members tomorrow (Saturday, February 18) at the National Football Stadium (1pm kickoff).
This two trial matches will be the second for the South Pacific Brewery-backed side after hosting the first trial last weekend against Digicel Cup reigning champions Hela Wigmen.
Head coach Stanley Tepend said this will be the final inhouse fixtures with Port Moresby-based clubs before they prepare for the most anticipated Queensland Hostplus Cup sanctioned trial against the visiting Central Queensland Capras next Saturday (February 25).
We've got two Digicel Cup teams this Saturday, Tepend told media.
This is obviously to try our combinations before the Queensland team comes up.
We will play Vipers for the first 30 to 40 minutes and then Gulf, before they play themselves at the end.
Tepend said the focus was to build the team for next weeks fixture and to give the players every chance to try-out themselves.
The Rockhampton-based Capras will also field ex-Hunters in Samuel Yegip and Nixon Putt, while Zev John and Bob Tenza might also get a call-up to wrestle against their countrymen.
Tepend said newcomers are expected to make their club debut next week as he is certain about giving an equal opportunity to all players.
Both Vipers and Isou did assemble their preseason squad late last year and are into the business to trim the team down moving close to the season start.
Vipers coach Joe Sipa and Isous Roger Laka said they kicked off their preseason early to give players ample time to prepare for the competion, which is set to kickoff in April.
