In a interview with Post Courier, PNG hunters coach Stanley Tendep made a few points clear when asked about nepotism in the recent PNG hunters selection, and the inclusion of Lae snax tigers fullback, Sonny Wabo in the pre-season squad.
"We pick on merit and that's what we've done in the past. With regards to Sonny, he deserves to be here"
"Obviously Sonny is from a club where i did most of my coaching but that is not the reason"
Coach Tendep added, "the same is given to all other players who are a part of the hunters pre-season squad".

"Sonny deserves to be here as to all other players as well".
" Everyone (PNG rugby league fans) are entitled to their own opinions but the boys are going good ".
"There is no feeling (nepotism) like that in the camp and that is very good for us".
"Everyone deserves that spot and we do have four players (hunters players on train and train deals) leaving for Australia", said Tendep.
Tendep also said that there is no plans for bringing in any new inclusions so far.
"If we need and if it is going to make the team better for us to win, we will but so far no one has been called in".
"Wabo is filling in for Edene Gabbie who did not return back to pre-season training after the x-mas and new year break".
"We had an issue with Edene Gabbie. I think he is planning to go to Australia, I'm no sure about that but he was with us during November and December training".
"We had to go for a fullback, Morea Morea is obviously there and Sonny is to give that push to him". The hunters coach said.

"Sonny was contracted to go overseas initially and we did speak to him. People will always say what they want like him coming from a club where I coached most of my time there but that is not the reason".

Hunters captain Ila Alu, also said that training has been good so far.
"Every coach has a different philosophy and with coach Stanley, it's defence oriented and that's what we've been doing".
Ila added,"there are some principles in our defensive system that needs to be driven, that's why we've been doing training so everyone gets up to speed so on game day everything just gets to go quicker and the more games we play back-to-back".
"This is the outcome to do to enforce what's needed of us to be part of our defensive system and that's what we've been doing. "
"By saying that, there are two different coaches and everyone has a different way of coaching and coach Stan has a different way compared to what coach Marum did in the past so I bet that's somethingwe are looking forward towards working with him".
Not only that but we know it will be a good season up ahead we just have to put in effort as hard as we can said Alu.
