PNG Kumuls and former PNG Hunters head trainer Solomon Kuluniasi has added spark to the Central Dabaris pre-season training.
Coach Steve Gunua says Kuluniasi’s inclusion with the team (Dabaris) has been positive with the playing group embracing every training sessions.
“Training has been good given we have our head trainer Solomon Kuluniasi bringing training experience from PNG Hunters and PNG Kumuls to the boys. His inclusion has made training interesting and getting the boys ready,” says Gunua.
Kuluniasi’s notable achievement has been with the PNG Hunters for winning the 2017 Queensland Rugby League title as well as with PNG Kumuls.
“When the boys see him (Kuluniasi) they feel the presence of the top level with the team. Training set up and is of standard, the boys are happy and giving their best,” says Gunua.
With few Digicel Cup franchises adding new stock of players and coaching staff into this year’s roster, Dabaris are also getting their own band of talents and experience.
Another new inclusion to the team’s preseason training is Wala Samoa who plays for GGK team and was selected during the Central Dabaris 9s recently hosted in Port Moresby.
“The main thing is that players might be new but it is all about how we coached them and getting everyone ready on the training field.
When I see the confidence in the players, I have no doubt in them and we will give our best in the 2023 season.”
“We have a good bunch of forwards in the likes of Ade Kawa, Rex Kaupa, John Mondo, Paul Tapi, Sydney Koi who will add spark and I think this year will be a good challenge,” says Gunua.
Gaining the much needed coaching experience within the local league of Port Moresby rugby league as the former Royals head coach, Gunua is pleased with how Dabaris finished off last season.
The support from the fans adding the Central Province way of celebrating and cheering is what coach Gunua will be happy to see again this season.
“Last year we set the bench mark for the club in finishing in the top five so this year we are looking ahead again. The boys are ready and really enjoying every training sessions.”
“We will do it the Central way with how fans bring the traditional song and culture to the field and the boys really needed that support.
We are thankful to gas Resource for this year’s sponsorship package, the Central Dabaris board and chairman Solo Damena, CEO Hubert Warupi and the coaching staff as well.”
