This is according to Hunters CEO Scott Barker when responding to the Post-Courier’s queries relating to how much a player (PNG Hunters) earns in a season.
Barker said the team management is also aware of the recent recruitment by new Digicel Cup franchise, Sepik Pride, on several of its players selected for the pre-season.
Barker says there is no disclosing of players’ contracts.
“Hunters players contracts are commercial in confident documents. We do not disclose player payments.”
“The SP PNG Hunters are bound by the QRL salary cap in determining how much we can pay players.
All Hostplus clubs are bound by the same rules to create a level playing field across the competition.
At this point in time there is no salary cap in the Digicel Cup,” says Barker.
The recent recruitment of PNG Hunters preseason squad members by Sepik Pride has also caught the attention of the Hunters board and management.
“Yes, the Hunters board and management are aware of approaches to our players by the new Sepik Pride franchise. We welcome their entry into the Digicel Cup.”
“We do have concerns though over the way they are conducting their business. We are currently waiting to hear from them regarding the correct transfer process for the release of SP PNG Hunters contracted player Wartovo Puara,” says Barker.
Given there is now vacancies left in the preseason squad, there is no confirmation if there will be new inclusions or not.
“At the current time the coaching staff have indicated that they are confident in the squad we have assembled.
We may add further players during the season if needed due to injury and suspension,” says Barker.
