THE Port Moresby Vipers’ 2023 Digicel Cup premiership campaign has been given a boost with Lae Tigers duo Miles Winis and Philemon Kimisive joining the side.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister’s 13 winger Leon Undupie joined the Moni Plus-sponsored side which would give extra firepower on their edges this season.
Undupie recently signed with a third-tier club in the Gold Coast Rugby League for this season but has joined the Vipers in the preseason.
Former SP Hunter forward Kimisive, Winis and Undupie featured for the Vipers in the tri-series trial match against SP Hunters and Gulf Isou at Santos National Football Stadium on Saturday.
Vipers head coach Joe Sipa said his men were anticipating a better season with the inclusion of the new, experienced players into the side.
“We are happy to have the services of Philemon Kimisive, Milex Winis and Leon Undupie,” Sipa said.
“They are all quality players and it’s a bonus for us. We also have a long list of 40 plus players in our preseason squad so we will be trimming the squad down to 25.
“We have a good mix of experienced and young talents coming through so it would be good to see them gel well before season starts.
“I’m impressed with our performances against Hunters and Isou in the tri-series trials.
There were positive signs in the trial I have few of the standouts that I took note of.”
Sipa said his side would have one more trial against a Port Moresby-based franchise before finalising his 25-man squad.
